Labor Law

To meet these legal requirements, we have provided a link below that  will display the Labor Law Poster. The poster is prominently displayed   in all Broward Health Facilities.

Smoke-Free Campus

We are pleased to be smoke-free, since January 2014!

This policy makes all Broward Health campuses completely smoke free and therefore eliminates all designated smoking areas.

We realize that quitting smoking is very difficult, but it is doable. There are more former smokers than current smokers in the state of Florida. Most smokers make several attempts to quit before becoming smoke free for good. As quitting is multi-faceted, a combination of tools may be necessary so a smoker can become smoke free. There are many resources available. Keep trying until you find the combination that works for you!

Individual consultations are available through your Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The EAP will work with employees and provide information, referrals, and resources for smoking cessation.

Group classes are available at Broward Health locations. These free, six-week, quit smoking classes are hosted by the BHMC Wellness Center. Call 954-759-7400 to register or 954-355-4499 for more information about the programs.

Talk to a quit coach by telephone at 1-877-U-CAN-NOW (1-877-822-6669). Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, you can access free individual counseling with experts by phone.

Online help is available. Go to www.quitnow.net/florida to enroll in an online program that will assist you in becoming smoke free.

The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) offers free smoking cessation classes in the community. To find classes in your area, go to www.ahectobacco.com or call 1-877- 848-6696.

Speak with your physician about prescription medications (e.g., Chantix, Zyban) which may increase your chances of successfully quitting. You can also talk with your physician about using nicotine replacement therapy (e.g., nicotine patch, gum, lozenges) to help curb nicotine cravings.

Regardless of what may work best for you, your EAP can direct you to the most effective tips and resources for quitting smoking and remaining smoke-free. Visit our page to discuss your options.
